MattBucks: teaching my kids to run their own economy.

I built a home economy for my kids called MattBucks. It is exactly what it sounds like. They earn, they spend, they save, they invest. And when they screw it up, they feel it, in a way that is safe to feel now and expensive to feel later.

How it works

There is a rate card for real contributions to the household, not for existing. There is a savings tier that earns interest, because I want them to see compounding in their own hands before a textbook ruins it. There is an investment bucket where they can put MattBucks into things they choose, and take the outcome. Good or bad.

If they blow the whole balance on a want, that is the lesson. If they save for something bigger, that is a different lesson. I am not there to rescue either one.

Why this matters to me

My whole philosophy is that a business should serve its owner's life, not consume it. That is not a slogan I put on a slide. It is how I run my own house. If I am going to preach freedom to my clients, my kids should be growing up learning how money and choices actually behave, so they get to have that same freedom on their own terms.

They are learning to run their own small economy. That is a skill I wish I'd had at their age. The point is not to raise little accountants. It is to raise adults who are not owned by their money.
