What do you really make per hour?

Most owners price by the hours on the job and forget the hours around it: quoting, prep, travel, admin, follow up. This shows the real number.

How this works

Your perceived rate divides the job price by the hours spent doing the job itself. Your real rate first subtracts direct costs and yearly overhead from annual sales, then divides that profit by every job hour and every hidden hour.

The target price adds direct cost, overhead per job, and your desired hourly pay for all job and hidden hours.

Assumptions: This is profit before income taxes. It counts owner time only and assumes the same number of jobs, costs, and hours throughout the year.

Next step

Your time has a price. Make sure your jobs pay it.

If hidden hours are eating the rate you thought you earned, the answer is a better price and a better operating system.
